Off-Night Readings

Off-Chance Productions is hosting several readings during our mainstage off-nights. All readings are Pay-What-You-Can and are produced by Jennifer Weaver. Our goal? To foster and develop new work that in turn moves on to a rewrite, a new stage, or a full production.

All readings begin at 8pm and are at Theatre of NOTE.

CONSUME (Wed, 12/1) screenplay by Christopher Morrison
You say you like Zombie movies but something is missing? Well, screenwriter Christopher Morrison has figured out what the zombies need…Commedia del Arte! After a mad scientist laces a cruise ship’s food with a chemical to make sure the guests eat everything they’re served, they all die and come back with a taste for…well, anything…including human flesh! Set at sea and blending stock Commedia characters with all the best loved zombie shenanigans, Consume will be like nothing you’ve ever heard before…and yet, so incredibly familiar. A commedia zombie-comedy.

RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS (Thurs, 12/2) screenplay by Mariah Gretchen Robinson
Sasha Proctor is your normal, all-American Gen Xer, with a loving, if somewhat grating family, and her dream job as a video game developer. When she is confronted with a jarring incident – a sudden moral dilemma – she makes a choice that will forever change her life. Random Acts is an exploration of moral relativism, the media, and what makes us love. This is for anyone who’s ever wondered, “What would I do?”

AVIATRON (Tues, 12/7) stage play by Amy Nicholson
A rebellious middle class slacker flips the (literal) bird to her parents and boyfriend when she skips college to work in a chicken processing plant in this story of feathers, jealousy and cheap domestic beer. Amy Nicholson is a critic and playwright whose interests include hot dogs, standard poodles, Bruce Willis and comedies about the utter futility of existence.

LOOKING FOR NORMA DESMOND (Thurs, 12/9) screenplay by Ross Schwartz
Harry thinks the writer in his all time favorite film, Sunset Boulevard, had the right idea. Why not seduce an aged, wealthy and fading movie star in order to become a kept man while pursuing the difficult career path of writing? What could possibly go wrong…or right?
